I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend together! At school this week we are learning lowercase letters 'g' and 'a'. Our lowercase letters so far to practice are: t,b,f,n,m,i,u,o,c,g,a.
This morning we also read the big book, 'I Want My Mom' during shared reading. It is about a character, Jake the Snake, who looks everywhere for his mom and then finds that she was with him all along!
This afternoon we go to music, art and the G-lab for computers. Enjoy the rest of your Monday!

Happy Fall!
This morning we started learning about syllables (word parts) in our blue book. We put our hands under our chin and counted the syllables first in this way and then we used our fingers to count the number of parts in the word. Here are a few words to try: fall, apple, tree, blossom, petal, bud, orchard. We also read a story about apples and learned that an apple starts as a seed and then grows into a tree. The tree branch develops a bud in the spring that changes into a flower blossom. The flower blossom falls off the tree and an apple is left. In our math center this week our class will have a chance to see if they can balance 10 apples after reading the story 'Ten Apples Up on Top' on Friday. When we tried this together I could only balance two! We have two new word wall words this week: 'can' and 'and'. Please have your child continue to practice counting to 25 if they cannot already and practice the letter names and sounds for lowercase letters t,b,f,n,m,i,u,c,o. Thank you for your help from home! It makes a difference!

We love America!
We love America! Here are two of the projects we worked on this last week. The kindergarteners made an American Flag bracelet using an ABC pattern (red, white, blue, red, white, blue). They also colored American Flag hearts to send to our local fire and ambulance departments.

Kindergarten News!
Happy Labor Day! I hope each of you enjoyed spending time with your families in the beautiful weather!
This week has gone by quickly! On Wednesday we celebrated red day! Next Wednesday will be orange day. We are finishing a beginning of the year literacy check called the ISEL (Illinois Snapshot of Early Literacy). We check for letter identification, sound recognition, matching initial sounds, and vocabulary.
We have started fundations and we are learning lowercase t,b, and f. Please have your child practice the names and sounds for these letters at home. We have also been practicing counting to 25 and writing our first names.
During shared reading this week we read ‘The Shape of Things’ and we are practicing being shape detectives by looking for shapes in our world. Today we walked through the playground to trace a square and rectangle and then we also made a circle and triangle. A few other shape words we are learning are: oval, trapezoid, parallelogram, and 3 dimensional. We learned that a sphere is 3 dimensional because it is not flat. We have also been counting the number of sides and corners a shape has.
For homework next week please have your child bring in one or more shapes from home and we are going to try to guess what they are. They can be 3 dimensional or flat. Please have your child bring them by Thursday. Thank you for your help!!
Just a few other notes…
- picture day is on Monday - Please have your child bring their picture envelope if they haven’t already if you are ordering pictures. There is an x here if I have an envelope from your child: ___
- orange day is on Wednesday
- library day is on Friday - We are excited to borrow new books from Mrs. Hickman!
